Description
For the last many years Tadeusz Deręgowski has focussed solely on painting pochades: small plein-air oil paintings of landscapes and townscapes. These small, light filled paintings seek to tackle the feeling of being in a specific place at a specific time, as opposed to attempting to record the material details of location. The simplicity of the images and freedom in the mark-making has been honed over the years through long hours outside in all weathers. To the point where he has achieved a remarkable, almost instinctive directness in technique. Tadeusz has traveled extensively to paint, including journeys to North Africa, Latin America, India and the USA. He lived for many years in Brasil.
Tadeusz has had work published in The Spectator and The Sunday Telegraph. In 2002 he won the Dedalo Award and, in 2016, the Anne Redpath Painting Award for a painting exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy. In 2022 he had a solo exhibition at the University of Santa Catarina, in southern Brazil.
