Jacqueline Peeters (b.1961, Eindhoven, NED) lives and works between Geraardsbergen and Brussels in Belgium. Peeters trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Tilburg, was a resident at Ateliers 63 in Haarlem from 1984–6 and won the Royal Award for Modern Painting in 1987. In the early 1990s she started making invitation cards and posters for fictitious exhibitions of unsold paintings in non-existent galleries. This fake marketing became the subject of her work, with painted texts listing titles of unsold paintings and price lists of unsold works. These lists of terms often appear as something akin to a poem. Many of her recent paintings begin by painting over unsold paintings, creating a palimpsest where glimpses of the underlying painting can be seen, a play between past and present. Peeters is represented by Annie Gentils Gallery, Antwerp.
